Online music streaming giant Spotify is testing a brand new playlist function made particularly for non-fungible tokens (NFTs) holders.

Known as Token-Enabled Playlists, the brand new function will enable users who hold certain NTFs for connecting their crypto wallets to Spotify and access exclusive content.

Spotify is using a startup Overlord among its partners within the new pilot. Per a Twitter thread by Overlord, the holders of Creepz NFTs receive an opportunity to try out this method. Overlord signed an offer with Seth Green’s production company Stoopid Buddy Stoodios to have an animated show according to figures in the Creepz NFT collection earlier this year.

The pilot will come in the US, United kingdom, Germany, Australia, and Nz, and presently only on Android.

The startup described their “Invasion” playlist might be utilized by users connecting their Web3 wallets around the application.

Spotify mentioned this services are open to Spotify Premium users only, TechCrunch reported, which the testing period can last three several weeks, throughout which playlists is going to be updated.

“At Spotify, we routinely conduct numerous tests in order to improve our consumer experience. A number of individuals finish up paving the road for the broader consumer experience yet others serve only as vital learnings,” the organization was quoted as saying, without supplying details.

And Overlord isn’t the only project to participate the trial. Kingship, a metaverse band – “the very first supergroup of Bored Apes” – signed to Universal Group (UMG), announced that it’s a thing about this test too. They stated they’d be “launching a completely new token-enabled playlist.”

Per Kingship,

“This can be a special moment. We are about unlocking real value for the community and pushing the limitations of music and blockchain, and getting our holders be the main thing on this space.”

They added that this can be a curated playlist solely for KINGSHIP Key Card NFT holders. The audience also shared instructions on being able to access the playlist. Available crypto wallet options include MetaMask, Trust Wallet, Rainbow, Ledger Live, or Zerion.

Beside Kingship and Overlord, Moonbirds and FLUF will also be apparently participating.

iPhone users presently don’t have the choices to gain access to these exclusive playlists, that is unsurprising considering that Apple updated its Application Store Review Guidelines with increased rules for crypto and NFTs last October.

“Apps could use in-application purchase to market then sell services associated with [NFTs], for example minting, listing, and transferring,” the rules read. “Apps may allow users to see their very own NFTs, so long as NFT possession doesn’t unlock features or functionality inside the application.”

However , this really is among the key use cases for NFTs – they unlock use of exclusive content or any other perks.
