Kazakhstan’s central National Bank has mentioned that it’s “interested in” the “opportunities for innovation” that cryptoassets and DeFi can “give” the federal government.
Per Tengrinews, the Governor from the National Bank Galymzhan Pirmatov told journalists in a press conference, that Kazakhstan desired to take advantage of the technology that were produced by the “cryptocurrency sector.”
Pirmatov was challenged by reporters who recommended the bank might be late towards the game – which its decision to manage cryptoassets was not enough, far too late.
He responded:
“I don’t even think that we’re late about this. We, like many central banks and financial regulators on the planet, happen to be carefully observing and studying this trouble. We’re speaking about decentralized finance, where we’re attracted by the potential of innovation.”
The Governor rejected the concept issues relating to crypto mining – which brought to violent riots over winter – must be stored “separate” from wider conversations about crypto and DeFi.
Pirmatov was further quoted as explaining they “are curious about the possibilities for innovation these new types of technology can provide us.”
“As a result, we’ll execute these discussions in a fashion that ensures our decisions don’t negatively affect macroeconomic stability or even the interests from the consumers of monetary services,” he added.
Also, he stated that, “based around the results of” these “discussions,” the financial institution would “make a decision” regarding how to proceed.
However, the Governor also was quoted as stating that the bank’s “approach” could be “very simple,” adding:
“We will not ignore this sector. You want to take full advantage of the opportunity of innovation these technologies can give to us.”
Pirmatov described that employees from the bank were “very positively working” on crypto-related developments, but mentioned it had become “too early to speak about legalizing cryptocurrency” before it’d concluded “discussions” using the crypto “sector.”
The Governor has formerly mentioned that tentative plans for any digital type of the fiat tenge happen to be within the pipelines, which through the finish of the month, the financial institution would unveil its “decision-making methodology” because it looks to create a ultimate decision around the matter.
