Shopify unveils tokengated commerce included in new connect-to-buyer experience

Included in a brand new number of connect-to-consumer initiatives developed this season, Shopify allows retailers for connecting with fans and drive sales by creating exclusive merchandise for tokenholders. The initiative, dubbed “tokengate,” will come in early-access beta mode.

To obtain began, vendors can produce a tokengate shop on the Shopify application or add some feature directly in-store. Buyers would then have to connect their crypto wallet and verify they’re proprietors of relevant nonfungible tokens, or NFTs, to look gated merchandise or access exclusive occasions. The feature works as a gateway between NFT communities and consumer brands around the platform. 

Additionally, vendors can work with other brands for approaching NFT drops and get together with Shopify’s merchandising partners to build up premium products. In addition, vendors can mint custom NFTs on popular blockchains like Ethereum (ETH), Polygon (MATIC), Solana (SOL) and Flow (FLOW). Afterward, they are able to list then sell them right from their website.

The beta is open by invitation simply to select retailers by having an NFT collection. Neither the vendor nor buyer must pay with crypto to buy NFTs. Payment gateways include Shopify Payments, Shop Pay, various crypto payment gateways, and debit or credit cards. Buyers can claim their NFTs via email and add them straight to their wallets.

Doodles co-founder Evan Keast, whose NFT project has became a member of the initiative, commented:

“Being an ambitious community-driven project, we have placed a powerful focus on setting the conventional for unique NFT collector encounters. By partnering with Shopify on tokengated merch, we surprised our holders and gave the possession of the Doodle another meaning.”
